The core competency, conflict resolution, can be defined as the informal or formal process that two or more parties use to find a peaceful solution to their dispute. Solutions can resolved through a variety of methods depending with the issue on hand. In organizations, conflict is inevitable, and good conflict management tools are essential. Tools include various methods such as negotiation, training, legal support, and accommodation, just to name a few.
As a leader, it is my responsibility to respond, react and resolve all forms of conflict in the workplace as quickly as possible. I often think about how my presence impacts my audience and the way I de-escalate the issue on hand will impact all parties, either negatively or positively. Being present and truly listening to the person or people in front of me we, also, create a healthy work culture and environment. As a manager and leader, it is my responsibility to be an advocate and manager my team conflicts as unbiased as possible.

The Aikido Way - Reflection

OGL 340: The Aikido Way of Conflict Transformation provided me an opportunity to truly view and react to conflict in a much more responsible and healthy approach. Introducing me to this new approach made me practice how I manage conflict first hand. The martial arts practice of Aikido, allowed me to hone in on my tone and non-verbal responses, not only for myself but also be aware of how my audience response and/or reacts. Below, I have attached my final reflection artifact where I had the opportunity to recall key takeaways of the course in which I have now applied in my current role and will continue with on other roles.

Reflection

The importance of including this competency as it relates to my Organizational Leadership degree is tremendous. Conflict Resolution is a competency that can truly be utilized in all aspects (career, personal, school, etc.). After taking this course, even more so, allowed me to view conflict as a healthy matter. Often times, conflict is view in a negative connotation and one is not willing to view the issue with growth mindset and approach it in a positive mater.
As a reflect to my decisions I have made in regard to conflict resolution prior to this course, I lacked confidence and assertiveness. I often was consumed with saying what the person in front of wanted to hear other than what the person should  hear. Since the course, I have found myself confident with my responses and, more importantly, following up and checking for understanding with all parties involve. WIth taking this course, I can confidently reassure all parties involved that I can manage any conflict responsibility.
