Empathy is defined as the ability to understand and share the feelings of others. Although easily to comprehend, it is a competency that requires a lot self-awareness and practice to craft. Empathy requires true understanding of other people's feelings, both verbal and non-verbal. This is why I firmly believe empathy is one of the most difficult competencies to master.
As leader, I believe empathy is an important competency to have. The ability to understand not only what your party is saying but the emotions expressed are also. As a leader, one must balance this emotional intelligence and use it accordingly. Understanding one's' own empathy allows them to build stronger relationships.
